Vets for Freedom

Have you seen this new TV ad from Vets for Freedom?

Senator Obama: When will you finally visit Iraq? – May 28, 2008

Well, here's another somewhat longer video from Blackfive featuring SPC Kate Norley along with Tennessee's superlative 7th District Republican Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn.

Nashville, Tennessee – National Heroes' Tour – March 31, 2008 – Kate Norley & Interview w/ Rep. Marsha Blackburn

(I wish Marsha were my Representative, but I live in the neighboring 5th District, so I have to settle for Jim Cooper. I must admit that for a Democrat, though, he's about as good as it gets – one of the bluest of the Blue Dogs. If only he hadn't voted for that ditzy Nancy Pelosi as Speaker ... Anyway, Marsha, who, incidentally, is a brand new grandmother, is a whole lot better looking than Jim.)

  1. Mickey, I'd say that we probably disagree on definitions.

First of all, what does "conservative" mean to you? (And by the way, you really should learn how to spell a word before using it.) If your definition requires someone to be a Ron Paul clone in order to qualify, then I'm afraid that you and I will have to agree to disagree on the concept of conservatism.

Personally, I have absolutely no use for Ron Paul, whom I consider to be a kook. Even though I agree with much of his philosophy, his positions on the Iraq War, the battle against Islamofascism, and Israel are so misguided and irrational that I simply cannot trust his judgment.

In addition, although he has recently tried to distance himself from them, some of the past writings issued under his name cause me to suspect rather strongly that the man has a certain dislike for Jews.

If, as I suspect, Ron Paul represents your idea of a conservative, then thank goodness that Marsha Blackburn doesn't qualify.

On the other hand, taking a look at the real world in which we all must live (as opposed to some ideal, Utopian world which can never exist except in our imaginations), Marsha Blackburn is unquestionably one of the most consistent and reliable conservative voices in the entire Tennessee congressional delegation.

You may be frustrated by the job she is doing as your Representative, but think how much worse you would feel if, as I did prior to the last redistricting, you were represented by Bart Gordon. Believe me --- after years in that situation, Jim Cooper is a vast improvement. I suppose that if I had somehow been redistricted into Marsha's turf, I'd feel as though I had died and gone to Heaven.

Truly, some people don't know when they're well off!

  2. Marsha Blackburn isn't a conservative??? She is only ranked as the 12th most conservative member in the House and the most conservative woman in Congress. I don't think I would take anything that is said on "bluecollarrepublican.com" seriously. Mickey White ran for Congress against Blackburn and received less than 1% of the vote. It seems like he is still a little bitter from his defeat.

  3. Novak, since you posted the same comment twice, I allowed only one, since anyone who reads my blog may be assumed to be sufficiently intelligent to undestand your post the first time :-)

Interesting about Mickey White --- until he left his comment here, I had never heard of him, nor of bluecollarrepublican.com. I doubt that Marsha has very much to worry about. I only wish we had more like her.
